About Carl Haynes, President & CEO

Carl has more than 10 years experience working with some of the highest profile startups in Silicon Valley and Seattle. He was an early employee at Starwave, a company started by Microsoft Co-Founder Paul Allen. At Starwave, Carl wrote the first java applets deployed by ESPN.com, NFL.com, NBA.com, FamilyPlanet.com, MrShowBiz.com and other popular sites. Starwave was later bought by Disney.

Carl was one of the first 10 employees at Marimba, a company started by several of the engineers whom created the Java programming language. Marimba grew to be a $40 million a year company, had a successful IPO and was later sold to BMC Software.

Carl has also worked at Motorola where he was part of the core team implementing the user interface framework for Motorola's next generation of cell phones. This team coordinated efforts with the hardware and applications teams spread across three continents.

Recently Carl worked at TiVo, where he was a primary engineer working on rewriting the TiVo software to run on cable boxes. Carl also worked on many high profile applications that currently run on the TiVo hardware.

In 2006 Carl left TiVo to join Kiva as its Chief Scientist. In that role, he made the move to Africa to set up a software development office for the company and have some adventures of his own.

Always looking for a challenge, in September, 2006 Carl struck out on his own to try run a high tech company in one of the lowest tech countries in the world.
